Lyrics

Waters Gone

V1:
I was walking through the desert
When a stranger came from nowhere out of the sun

V2:
He was tall and gaunt and dressed in black
And he had eyes that were on the run.

PRE:
I asked him “stranger where did you come from?”
He said “I am from nowhere and I am no one
I am here to tell you your time has come
We are just prisoners of the sun

CH:
Now that the water’s gone
Now that the water’s gone
Now that the water’s gone

V3:
Sometimes out in the desert
It gets so hot my eyes play tricks
Sometimes out in the burning swells
It’s hard to get a fix

PRE:
And I have seen oases I have seen jewelled caravans
I must have seen a hundred promised lands
But I can’t face the future if I can’t trust my memory
And nothing is as I thought it should be

CH:
Now that the water’s gone
Now that the water’s gone
Now that the water’s gone

BRIDGE:
He said “I have hiding places in the darkest parts of hell
For I am a sailor who rides these angry swells”
And the birds of prey were circling like tornadoes on the plain
And I thought I felt a single drop of rain

CH:
But all the water’s gone

V5:
I was walking through the desert
And a stranger came from nowhere out of the sun
Out of this molten golden sea of sand and sage
He had eyes that were on the run

PRE:
And he said “You realize now where you came from
And a moment or a lifetime are the same under the sun”
And just as my eyes began to understand
That stranger as he vanished against the burning sun

CH
Said “All the water’s gone”
All that the water’s gone
All that the water’s gone
All that the water’s gone
